Tarnowskie Góry are situated in the north of Upper Silesia, the town has been one of the most important industrial centres in this part of Europe since the 16th century. It owes its establishment and fame to the silver, lead and zinc ore mining. The town name itself reveals its centuries-long relations with the mining industry, as in the Old Poland period “Gory” meant mines.
